Do you often get trapped by this question? Unable to break free or prove your worth? You get stuck by this question, and allow it to answer for you in silence. You don’t hear back from a friend, the question slowly comes to you. You don’t hear back after an interview, same. You think of starting a new project, the doubt visits you.
Anytime you feel you are important, worthy, and like you deserve something, the question slowly enters your thoughts, and asks you to really think about it. It reminds you of how many times you have failed or have been rejected. It reminds you of the times life put you back in your place, to make you doubt whether this time would be any different.
It joins forces with self-hatred and pushes you into a spiral of dread where you are unworthy and not good enough. It doesn’t end here, while in the process of making you hate yourself, it will also make you hate most people around you and idolize a few. It will make you hate your current life and give you ideas to escape it. ‘Escape it and you’ll have another chance to prove that you are worthy, all these people here already know you are not good enough!’ it whispers in your ears and your plans.
So you’d want to quit. Quit your job, your relationship, the city, the country, your dream, any tasks you may have, or a version of yourself. All gone just because of a limiting self-belief- I’m not worthy, I’m not enough.
In my work I’ve closely seen how deeply rooted this limiting belief gets and how it impacts your decisions and perception of your life. Working to unlearn this belief requires much deeper work into your self and identity while learning to see yourself in an entirely different light. While we wait for others or external life outcomes to decide our self worth, in therapy I help my clients decide it for themselves. For who knows what you have been through better than you, and who better to validate that you are worthy and capable of it all. That YOU are enough.
